Frequently Asked Questions About Our Painting Services
What painting services do you offer in Laval and the Montreal area?
We offer interior painting, exterior painting, residential painting, commercial painting, spray painting, staining, drywall repair, and wallpaper installation and removal.
What paint brands do you use?
We mainly use Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams, two brands known for their durability, coverage, and quality of finish, both indoors and out.
Is priming necessary before painting?
Yes, in most cases. Primer improves adhesion, evens out the finish, and blocks stains — especially important on new drywall, dark colours, or repaired surfaces.
What's the best time of year to paint?
Interior painting can be done year-round. For exteriors, spring and early fall are ideal: moderate temperatures and low humidity allow for even drying and a longer-lasting finish.
Do I need to move my furniture before the work begins?
We move and protect light furniture during the work. For bulky or fragile pieces, we recommend moving them ahead of time or discussing it with us during the quote.
How much does an interior or residential painting project cost?
An interior painting project typically costs between $3,000 and $8,000, depending on the size of the project, the condition of the surfaces, and the materials chosen. Paint properly applied on a well-prepped surface generally lasts 7 to 10 years.
How much does an exterior painting project cost?
Exterior paint generally needs to be redone every 5 to 10 years depending on materials and exposure, with a typical cost of $4,000 to $10,000 depending on the size and condition of the property.
How much does commercial painting cost?
Rates generally range from $2 to $5 per square foot, depending on the condition of the surfaces, the type of paint, and the complexity of the project. We usually apply one coat of primer followed by two finish coats for a long-lasting result.
Spray painting or rolling: which method is more cost-effective?
Spraying is faster on large surfaces, which reduces labour costs, but it uses more paint. Rolling takes more time but offers better control and can cost less for smaller jobs.
How many coats does drywall repair require?
Most repairs require two to three coats of compound — the first fills the damage, the second smooths the surface, and the third ensures a seamless blend with the existing wall.
Do I need to sand after a drywall repair?
Yes, sanding is essential after applying compound. It smooths the surface, removes irregularities, and preps the wall for an even, professional paint job.
Is staining more affordable than painting?
Generally, yes, since it requires less prep and fewer coats than paint. Two coats of stain are often recommended: the first penetrates deep, and the second improves protection and colour consistency.
How much does wallpaper installation cost?
Costs vary depending on the material and room size, generally between $3 and $8 per square foot, including labour, prep, and minor wall repairs if needed. This rate is often higher than painting due to the detailed prep and precise pattern alignment involved.
Do you offer a warranty on your work?
We don't offer a formal warranty on our work. Our team is RBQ and CCQ licensed, with over 30 years of experience, and we pay rigorous attention to prep and execution for a result that lasts.
Is it better to paint before or after moving?
Before, ideally. An empty home is faster and simpler to paint, with no furniture to protect or move — and it's the easiest time to make changes before you settle in.
Is Xroma a licensed company, and do you serve my area?
Yes. We're RBQ licensed and CCQ certified, and we serve Laval, the North Shore, and Greater Montreal, including Terrebonne, Saint-Jérôme, Repentigny, Blainville, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles, and Ahuntsic-Cartierville.
